Training, essentially an integral part of human life. In recent years Human Resource Planning has
assumed great significance in manufacturing sector which includes wood based panel industry.
It was however felt that a systematic training programme with suitable facilities was very much required to train people for different levels in the factories i.e. floor level, supervisory staff and Managerial cadre. The establishment of this training centre by the Government of India with the assistance of united Nations Development Programme and Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations has given a great relief to this Industry as they can now turn to this Institute for their requirement of trained man power.
With the realization that if the Industry was to become more reliant and diversify on to more specialized fields and attain international competitiveness for export ,concerted effort in extending the basic training facilities for the manufacture of wood based products, have to be made sooner After several painstaking and often exasperating exercises for setting up training centre with the assistance of FAO/UNDP was sanctioned in 1985 and the first training course of One Year Course was started in 1989.
Systematic training programme with suitable facilities for conducting regular One year training course on Mechanical Wood Industries Technology for the personnel who desire to become Wood Technologist and intensive short term vocational courses were planned for persons who have industrial experience and working in factories was planned. The concept of HRD Programme 'Training and Development', was conceptualized Training imparted with a view to create specific learning behavior by education. It is based upon needs gap approach where participants imbibe knowledge. Skills and attitude necessary for efficient performance which they either lack or possess inadequately for job needs. As compared to training 'Development' is growth oriented and signifies enhancement of competence.
